6Du set the standard for this year’s class assemblies when they showcased their learning to the rest of the school last week. The assembly began with the children reciting a poem they had written about the Blitz as the class responded to Churchill announcing the end of the Second World War. The children then shared some of their Henry Moore–inspired artwork and reflected on his experiences of being in the underground stations during the bombing.

The song We’ll Meet Again cheered the evacuees from 6Du as they set off for the countryside. The children shared the different experiences they had, including being served biscuits (instead of chips and beer!) and having to do chores while living away from their parents. The class then explained how they had been learning to Make Do and Mend and Dig for Victory as a way to help with rationing.

To celebrate VE Day, the children sang and danced to The Victory Song!

Thank you 6Du for a lovely assembly.

The 6DU Class Assembly post on the Hamstel Juniors website is extremely inspirational! The pupils shown great passion and teamwork throughout the program. The manner in which they articulated their ideas and themes showed exceptional inventiveness and confidence. It's clear that a lot of thought went into the visual elements as well, particularly the creative poster design, which perfectly captured the essence of the assembly. Such interesting and artistically appealing posters not only improve learning but also promote artistic expression among pupils. Excellent work by instructors and students alike!
