With a warning to head to the nearest Anderson shelter should the air raid siren sound, Squadron 6D took the audience on an unforgettable wartime mission at the end of last half term.
At precisely 07:45 hours, the class was ready for take-off as they set course for Duxford. Under the command of Commander Taylor, the children completed intensive training to reach peak fitness during Boot Camp.
A visit to the Operations Room inspired some great poetry and reflecting on the diversity within their squadron helped everyone recognise the importance of being allies to one another.
Through their diary extracts, the children shared their accounts of exploring an Anderson shelter and seeing the different aircraft, including a Spitfire suspended from the ceiling of the hangar! The squadron also showcased their lovely artwork, inspired by Henry Moore and the Blitz, before returning safely to Hamstel Headquarters. Mission complete!
The assembly concluded with a performance of a rap all about Duxford, celebrating their mission.
Thank you, 6D, for an informative and enlightening assembly.
