6Du really impressed with the first class assembly of the year last Friday! The children shared some key information about their topic on the Second World War through their lovely choral speaking and the song Who do you think you are kidding, Mr Hitler! The class explained the role of the artist Henry Moore, an official war artist, who was tasked with recording the ‘dismal time’ people had when taking cover in the underground during air raids. The children also shared their knowledge of Make Do and Mend and Dig for Victory through their own work learning to sew and grow broad beans in our school allotment! Although inspired by rationing, the class enjoyed making their own potato cakes. The class also demonstrated how people kept their spirits up by sharing their dance to Choo Choo Ch’boogie. 6Du finished their assembly with the song Evacuate as the children were sent to safety!
