Year 5 recently worked with Southend Borough Council's Road Safety Team to learn about keeping safe as a pedestrian. The children took part in an interactive discussion in the classroom and a road side session in close proximity to the school.
Year 5 enjoyed taking part in different activities at Southchurch High this term. The children have been learning about how lessons differ at secondary school and what it will be like in year 7.
Year 5 Storybites was based on the book The Tale of Angelino Brown by David Almond. They were asked to think about the events at the end of the story, when the characters celebrate life creatively. Each child was challenged to make a mini piece of artwork to display in a model classroom. Just like the characters in the book, they had to use art materials that made them happy. The children loved experimenting with different resources although the challenge to keep everything miniature was frustrating at times!
At the end of the day, each model classroom was full of a variety of mini sketches, clay models, paintings, collages and sculptures that represented aspects of the book e.g. Angelino’s wings and a fountain of custard.
Each class designed and created a new classroom for Angelino’s school.
