The children had a great time during our recent Maths Day. Each year group carried out their own investigation and enjoyed a day of practical maths where they were able to be creative and really immerse themselves in their work.
Sophie Green, our first Star Author of the year, spent an entire day in school talking to and working with our year 5 and 6 children. She inspired the children by telling them about her passion for mystery and crime novels and her journey to becoming a writer. The children learnt about genres of crime, including ‘Cosy Crime’ and ‘Hard Boiled Crime’. Following the advice of Sophie Green, the children created their own detective and wrote a scene full of mysteries, possibilities and unanswered questions.
Well done to our competition winners. The children did a great job of explaining how they would investigate their very own mystery and were rewarded with a special lunch date with Sophie!
Thank you to everyone who donated to our Harvest collection for the Southend Foodbank. Our newly elected School Council worked hard to create a fantastic display of all the donations ahead of our special whole school assembly.
Southend Foodbank is a charity which works hard to support families in crisis. We are proud of our community links and know how grateful the charity is for all your kind donations.
Reading HutWe now have a reading hut on both the lower and upper school playgrounds. Children can choose a book from the hut to read on their own or with a friend at lunchtime.
Elections took place in every class in the school when the children voted for one of their peers to represent them on the school council.
Congratulations to the newly elected school council for 2019 – 2020
Thank you to everyone who bought books at the Scholastic Book. The book fair raised a fantastic £953.55. The commission generated will be used to buy lots of new books for our school library.
Well done to our competition winners who each won a £5 voucher to spend at the book fair.
