Autumn Term

Across the year, Year 4 children learn to

  • Secure their independent planning using a box up
  • Develop 5 parts to a story
  • Organise each part of a story into paragraphs to indicate a change in place or jump in time
  • Organise ideas in paragraphs around a theme
  • Make the appropriate choice of pronoun or noun across sentences to aid cohesion
  • Write using a legible and joined style

 

Across the year in spelling, we

  • Revise the Year 3 spelling curriculum
  • Learn the Words We Need to Know
  • Practise words from our own spelling logs
  • Use the first 3/ 4 letters of a word to check spellings in dictionary
  • Take dictation for spelling and punctuation taught so far
  • Proofread our own work for spelling errors
